"My son had a fantastic time at the camp. Uni hockey is his new best friend. Having been round the block with camps over the years, “kids get sported" was by far one of the most professional I have seen.

My son came home every day learning- not just a babysitting service. The staff were handpicked too and looked the part. I wish you great success with it which I have no doubt will be great. "

Welcome to the world of multi sports participation for children. A growing body of research literature supports the role of the multi sports approach to truly develop multiple skills. At Kids Get Sported we strive to teach the child and not a specific rigid sporting activity or skill, thereby developing overall athleticism.

“At young ages we should be talking about athleticism .”

Sebastian Coe, Olympian and IAAF President

Scientists have described a “sampling period” (5 to 12 years) in which a child is best served trying out or “sampling” a range of activities or sports. This period coincides with enormous brain plasticity, or flexibility, during which the potential for motor development is unparalleled. This period in your child’s development is the perfect window of opportunity for sports sampling and the process provides the skills needed to maximise their athletic potential. Scientific research does in fact agree that early specialisation does more harm than good.

Multi skills coaching develops competence, confidence, connection, creativity, character and caring – critical components of positive youth development. Countless sports stars played more than one sport in their youth, many of whom attribute their later success to a strong grounding in multi sports involvement and skill development. These stars include:

The following are consistently reported as the main benefits of multi-sport participation:

Another significant advantage of engaging in multi sports activities is that this “sampling period” allows your child to try out different things and facilitate him or her finding the one or ones that best suit their abilities.

Kids Get Sported Philosophy:

The staff at KGS are there to encourage the children to try new skills, help them with technical issues they encounter and to create an environment where your child has the opportunity to experiment, learn and above all, have fun. We aim to introduce and develop a solid foundation in movement skills and sports understanding that can be applicable to all sports in the future.

“You can’t be a good footballer and average at everything else. Running, jumping, throwing, catching and general skills that you put little thought into all add up when you take to the field. Coordination and balance are vital tools to possess in most sports and should be engrained into us at an early age.”
-

Michael Owen, professional soccer player

We stress the importance of deliberate play and fun games – Teaching Games for Understanding – internationally recognised strategies of youth coaching used across a wide range of sports. These games and deliberate play are intrinsically motivating, maximise fun and provide enjoyment. Games and training based on deliberate play (as opposed to deliberate structured practice) increases motor skills, emotional ability and creativity.
